Summer in Morzine

Summer is here!

After a busy winter, and a short break, summer is just around the corner, and with it comes all of the events that are going to make the Summer in Morzine, Les Gets and the surrounding areas a truly exciting and awesome one. Here’s our lowdown of what’s going on in the area this summer;

11th June to 3rd September – The lift systems in Morzine officially open for pedestrians and mountain bikers alike, with the rest of the Portes du Soleil following quickly. Get out there and enjoy the amazing scenery, either with a leisurely hike, or on two wheels, there’s so much to see.

Crankworx

 

15th-19th June – Crankworx – Les Gets hosts a 4 day extravaganza of Mountain biking skills. Crankworx is in Les Gets for the first time, and brings the stars of downhill, slopestyle and slalom to our doorstep, along with concerts, music, and other events. A great opportunity to get up close and personal with both the male and female riders as they shoot past you downhill.

 

24-26th June – The Pass’portes du Soleil –  The 13th edition of the mountain biking ride taking in 2 countries, 15 lifts, and 80 kilometres of itineraries, completed in just one day! opening up the whole Portes de Soleil areas over one weekend. There’s also a bike show in nearby Chatel, with lots of companies showcasing their products, a great event for keen bikers. You can also do a shorter pedestrian route, taking around 4 hours, which includes 2 stops visiting local farms and tasting their products.

10th July – Etape du Tour – This is anyone’s opportunity to ride the actual route of the Tour de France, under the race conditions. 15,000 amateurs are expected to ride through Morzine, on a sporting challenge, that is a true test of fitness. However it is also an opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful parts of France, including our own (not that we’re biased!)

Tour de France

23rd July – The Tour de France – The official Tour de France passes through the heart of Morzine this year, The Tour runs from the 2nd  to the 24th July, covers 21 stages, and 3519km. Morzine is the penultimate stage before the final ride into Paris. Get the opportunity to see the greats such as Chris Froome speed past, and cheer him on to another victory!

 

There’s not only these biking events on in the area, there’s also plenty of beautiful hikes to be done, as well as lakes and pools to swim in, road biking, rafting, horse riding and golf in the area.
