End of season snow, sunshine and parties…and the lift closing dates

End of season snow

Snow in March!

I can’t believe it’s the end of season already.  Winter 2012/13 has really whizzed by in a blur of snow, snow and a bit more snow!  March is one of my favourite times of the year though.  We have had another great dump of snow in the last couple of weeks and it looks like there is more on the way.  Snow forecast.  One of the best things about living in Morzine is that when we get snow in March it isn’t freezing.  Due to the nice high altitude skiing we can get snow on the pistes and then it tends to be pleasantly warm in the valley.  So fresh powder in the morning, followed by an afternoon beer in the sunshine.

There are countless events going on in the area over the next few weeks.  This weekend has been the 3rd annual Rock the Pistes festival.  A live music festival where bands and artists play concerts to skiers on the snow.  Check out the following photo article from infoval74.com.

Also to come soon is the last Basscamp session of the season.  L’Opera nightclub and Basscamp sessions present ‘Ghetto funk in the Alps’ this Tuesday 26th March from midnight.

There are also loads of end of season parties and events to enjoy as we head into April.  The main ones of these are the Avoriaz closing parties on 21st April.  If you live in the area or are going to be on holiday here then head up and join the fun on the final day of the ski season.  Chez Flo put on live bands and a huge fancy dress party each year.  It is worth booking a table if you want to eat as they will be really, really busy!

The ski lifts in the area close on the following dates;

Morzine and Les Gets- 14th April (Mont Chery- 31st March)

Avoriaz- 21st April

Chatel (and link to Avoriaz)- 21st April

Swiss resorts- 14th April
